The father of the brand is Georges Ducommun, who was born in a small Swiss village, Le Locles. Young Georges became interested in watches at a very early age and was hired by a watchmaker at the age of 12. In 1889 - at the age of 21 - the young man opened his own workshop, where he practiced all branches of watchmaking to his heart's content. He also handled the structures with a deft hand during repair, design and planning. Nothing exemplifies his conscientiousness better than the fact that he personally handed over every watch he made to his customers.

Ducommun's structures won gold medals at the World's Fair in 1905 and 1906. By this time, his watches had already become known worldwide. Georges also had a passion for cars, so when the opportunity arose, he had a garage built at his home in Le Locles and a gas station next to it. His passion for cars brought him unexpected success, because in 1911 he received an order from a car manufacturer, and in 1921 Bugatti signed a contract with him. From that year, Doxa watches were added to their best-known racing car, the T35.
In 1910, Ducommun decided to protect the Doxa brand name, and in addition to his impeccable pocket watches, he also began manufacturing railway and travel watches. At that time, Ducommun's watches were already known worldwide and enjoyed great popularity. Its reputation was further enhanced by the fact that during World War I, several armies received dust-proof watches with black dials. This was considered a great success because pocket watches were more accepted at the time.
In the 1930s, he also produced chronographs of impeccable quality. He continued his work until his death in 1936. Doxa was headed by Jecques Nardin, the son of Ulysse Nardin, well-known in watchmaking circles, who was also Ducommun's son-in-law. The new owner brought many innovations with him. In 1944, they released their first model with a date display, then a countdown timer and seconds.
